Poem - Indian Interlude Seriously

Poem - Indian Interlude Seriously

This poem is based on the poem of the great Indian poet Nissim Ezekiel on his popular poem "Edinburgh Interlude-lightly" (Section-18), The subject matter is different, however.

Typical an Indian 'daughter-in-law'
to her 'mother-in-law'
returning from 'four Dhams'
"Don`t worry respected Mother in law',
I need no help in house, take rest,
Leave all work to me".

Then she complained
to her 'husband' and 'father in law'
"That old women don`t help me
in kitchen or household work".

Said the retired "Mother in law",
"I am not fault at all,
think about my past status,
either she lets me help in house,
otherwise she must n`t complain".

Replied an old husband
"You must try to understand
your educated modern 'daughter in law'
She is very hardworking woman.
There are few who looks after house
with regular service of big salary".

Warns angrily 'mother in law',
"If she quarrels with me again,
I will leave house immediately,
join 'Wrudhashram' in city".

That`s where  the quarrel stood
When I last heared from my Wife.
